001 SEED MNEMONICS
Seeds clothe us, feed us, shelter us, so how come do we know so litttle about them? This project looks at the agricultural and food system today through the lens of its smallest yet most fundamental actors – seeds.
001 PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A seed exhibition about seed literacy and sovereignty, aiming to represent the agricultural and food system today through the lens of its smallest, but most fundamental actors – the seeds. The project illustrates crucial information about the genetic erosion and loss of biodiversity that industrial agricultural practices are causing through a series of ceramic seed displays. Terminology, related to the seed system is demystified by a seed glossary, unfolding topics like biopiracy, seed patenting and sovereignty through real-life examples. Finally, “Seed Mnemonics” is tied together by a Seed Manifesto, activating and encouraging the audience to participate in the movement for seed freedom and offering practical ways to be proactive on a policy, communal and personal level.
